The Dolomites Collection was photographed in the high country above the Eisack Valley. The Plose rises to 2,562 metres, a broad massif of pine and open meadow whose summit ridge opens a full 360 degree panorama across the range. Below it lie the slopes of Palmschoß, where the forest thins and the treeline gives way to grass and stone. North east stands the Peitlerkofel, 2,875 metres, a solitary two headed massif at the edge of the Puez-Odle Nature Park, marking the divide between Val Badia and Villnöss. 

Further south, Lago di Carezza rests at 1,534 metres beneath the Latemar, fed by underground springs, its water shifting between emerald and deep blue. The Ladin people called it Lec de Ergobando, the rainbow lake. This series is about scale, and what scale does to a person. Standing on the Plose with the Dolomites laid out in every direction, the ordinary weight of things loses its grip. 

These mountains have been here for 250 million years, lifted from an ancient sea, and at dusk they turn rose and copper in the enrosadira, the alpenglow that gives the pale rock its colour for a few minutes each evening. There is a particular optimism in mountain country. Not loud, not triumphant, simply the quiet certainty that the view is worth the climb. The pines here do what the palms do elsewhere in our work: they mark the edge of somewhere worth standing.
