City Beach sits along Perth's Sunset Coast, facing the Indian Ocean roughly ten kilometres west of the city centre. The City Beach Surf Life Saving Club, one of Western Australia's iconic beachside institutions, has watched over this stretch of coast for generations and remains a landmark visible from above.
From the air, the coastline reveals itself differently. The Indian Ocean shifts from deep navy at the horizon through bands of aquamarine and turquoise before meeting the shore in white foam and warm sand. Swimmers become small figures; the scale of the ocean becomes unmistakable.
Captured on an early morning flight, "Iconic City Beach" holds that particular moment when the light is still low and the colours are at their most vivid. It has since become the most collected piece in the PINES & PALM TREES catalogue: the one that started everything.
