Of the five villages that make up Cinque Terre, Corniglia is the one that sits highest and reaches furthest from the sea. No ferry stops here. You arrive on foot or not at all. The pastel facades stack above the cliffs in a configuration that looks, from a distance, like something arranged by hand.
This photograph makes no argument. It simply shows the village as it is: compact, vertical, improbable. Built by people who had reasons to be exactly here and nowhere else. The Ligurian light does the rest.
Some places photograph themselves. Corniglia is one of them.
