The Helsinki Collection
Helsinki moved its entire city to follow the sea. In 1550 it was founded in the wrong location. By 1640 it had moved to the peninsula it now calls home. This collection was photographed in June 2019, the week before Juhannus. The Finnish Midsummer when 600,000 people leave the capital for their lake cottages and the city goes quiet. The light was already Nordic. Low. Long. Almost horizontal at nine in the evening. Three locations. The harbour, the pool, the cathedral. A city that knows where it belongs.
